SWFC Medical Assisting, Allied Health: Straight From A Student

Southwest Florida College's Medical Assistant program is designed to expose you to both the administrative and clinical aspects of the modern healthcare environment. We place emphasis on medical theory and terminology as well as teach you the practices and procedures associated with the operation of a healthcare facility. You will also learn in our clinical laboratory classes, where you can apply the knowledge you previously studied and further your training in real-world scenarios. When you successfully complete the program, you can pursue entry-level employment as a medical assistant with private physicians, health clinics, hospitals and nursing homes.

Southwest Florida College features an Associate of Science degree in Medical Assistant that can be completed within a year and a half of study. This degree will focus on fundamental medical courses, such as anatomy and physiology, radiography, and phlebotomy, as well as clinical coursework like clinical procedures and pharmacology. Our Associate of Science degree in Medical Assistant is available at our Ft. Myers, Port Charlotte and Tampa campus locations as well as online for your convenience.

SWFC has a wide variety of specialty affiliations where you could complete yoru Medical Assistant externship - including general practice, pediatric, cardiac, neurology as well as full service clinics and family health centers. Many of SWFC students are hired during their externship.

Medical Assistants are supervised in person with weekly visits from the SWFC externship coordinator, unlike other programs where a student's progress is graded through a phone call.

SWFC Allied Health Surgical Technician Program: Straight From A Student

"Surgical Tech" -- The Surgical Technician program is designed to provide students with an academic and clinical background in the field of surgical technology. The program prepares students for entry-level positions in a number of healthcare facilities including hospitals, medical centers, and public and private surgical centers. This program contains a 6 -credit non-paid surgical technician externship that must be completed prior to graduation.

SWFC Legal Studies Program: Straight from the Students from CSI Class


Southwest Florida College is excited to offer a New CSI Program. Students will learn many aspects of crime scene analysis including crime scene processing in a lab, forensic photography, and crime scene investigations. Students will also be exposed to mock crime scenes to sharpen their skills in identifying, securing, and processing various crime scenes. Students will specialize in the locating, recording, preserving, collecting and processing of physical evidence found at crime scenes.

The CSI diploma can be completed in only nine months. And the instructors are certified crime specialists who are employed in the field of forensics. The curriculum for the Crime Scene Investigation diploma program at Southwest Florida College has recently received Crime Scene Certification Board approval from the International Association for Identification (IAI). Fall Fest is moving to the Fort Myers campus on October 17th!

Students: PUMPKIN PATCH- Fort Myers: The details of Fall Fest have changed. The updated Fall Fest will take place on Saturday, October 17, from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the SWFC Fort Myers campus. The event will include: pumpkin painting; face painting; sno-cones; popcorn; and henna tattoos. Plus, with every student ID, you'll recieve a FREE pumpkin while supplies last. Additional pumpkins will be available for purchase. Entry and parking are free. There will be no: bounce house; dunk tank; obstacle course; carnival games. SWFC Criminal Justice Program Students Score Big



Four Criminal Justice Students, Max Tinkey “CJ Fraternity Club President”, Kyle McClinton, Oscar Lopez and Scott Siebert “CJ Fraternity Fundraising Chairman” are members of the American Criminal Justice Association, subchapter of Delta Omega Gamma Zeta, at Southwest Florida College. They journeyed to Richmond, Kentucky to compete in the 2009 LAE Region 5 Conference which was held at Eastern Kentucky University on September 24 through 26, 2009.

The students received awards for their efforts in several competitions. Oscar Lopez placed 2nd in the physical agility test. Max Tinkey placed 2nd in the Police Management examination and 3rd in the Criminal Law examination. Tinkey, Lopez and Siebert placed 1st in the team Firearms Competition. These students competed against regional colleges such as: University of Central Florida, Eastern Kentucky University, Florida State, ITT Tech Alabama, and ITT Tech Jacksonville Florida.
